Unleashing Catholic Generosity

Why are U.S. Catholics less likely to engage in religious giving than members of other faiths?  And what can we do about it?  Using social science to answer these crucial questions, this session will highlight why all Catholic charities need to be concerned about what is (or is not) occurring within our Catholic parishes, when it comes to cultivating generosity.

In a series of reports using nationally representative survey data, Brian Starks, along with his co-author Christian Smith, identified a Catholic giving gap in the U.S., linked this gap to parish cultures surrounding money, and suggested the need for parishes to be more participatory and focus on mission in order to spur greater Catholic generosity, both inside and outside of the Church.
